Pittsburgh, PA (WGR 550) - Sabres defenseman Victor Antipin went to Orchard Park on Sunday to attend his first NFL game. Antipin used to play soccer in Russia and has attended many professional soccer games. Last week Antipin told me he was really looking forward to the game and it didn’t disappoint, “I liked it, I didn’t understand the rules, but it was very interesting entertainment.”

As Buffalo fans know, the crowds at Bills games are totally different than the crowd that goes to a Sabres game. Antipin noticed the difference, “The atmosphere was interesting and I liked the passes. The fans were a little bit different, fans of the Bills are more noisy.”

In Europe, football is soccer. He said those fans have more energy than American football fans, “It’s different, soccer fans are crazy.”

Antipin said he really enjoyed the game and will go back again.

After the loss to Florida, Phil Housley sat Antipin and put Josh Gorges into the lineup. It’s not the first time the Russian has been a healthy scratch. He sat for four games earlier this season. He said, “Yes, I understand and I ‘m starting to understand more.”

It’s a much different game in the NHL than in Europe. Antipin said, “It’s a little bit different, it’s a different rink and it’s more faster.”

With the rinks in the NHL smaller, Antipin said “For me it’s harder.”

Antipin still watches a lot of film with assistant coach Chris Hajt and he said he gets a lot out of it.

With Marco Scandella home sick, Antipin paired with Justin Falk on Monday.
